Salem Keizer School District Counseling Curriculum Standards

The Salem-Keizer School District is very proactive and working hard to ensure that School Counselors have the most up to date resources and comprehensive programs possible. Our district has adopted the Oregon Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Framework created by the Oregon Department of Education, www.ode.state.or.us/go/counseling. The framework has been developed to meet the needs of our ever-changing world and to support quality education goal and school improvement efforts. It provides a tool for system change, a way of defining guidance and counseling as a program for EVERY student rather than a service for some. A comprehensive guidance and counseling program facilitates student growth and self-awareness and addresses whatever interferes with a student’s ability to participate in the learning process, to learn, and to succeed. Four student development domains are addressed in the framework. These are learning to learn (academic), learning to work (career), learning to live (personal/social), and learning to contribute (community involvement).
